Rather than it being an exotic and often perceived mystical practice, our course will teach that these practices are entrenched in scientific evidence from neuroscience to psychology. Meet the Academics

Richard L. Perkson

Professor

Ph.D. in Nutritional and Health Science (Wellness), Senior Program Leader and Research Professor, Associate Head of School (Food, Nutrition and Dietetics; Learning and Teaching)

Professor Perkson is a leading dietetics and nutrition academic, with national and international experience and a registered Health and Wellness Coach. His research is multidisciplinary in nature and includes work in wellness, nutrition, sport and psychology.

He uses exercise science to enable workplaces to promote and preserve the health and safety of workers, with specific expertise covering the analysis of physical work demands, hydration, stress, sleep and fatigue, as well as on the impacts of heavy physical activity and under nutrition.

He has worked in partnership with over 20 organisations spanning the past 30 years, collaborating with leading researchers and healthcare providers. Throughout this time, he has been a recipient of many research grants, publishing a number of manuscripts on a wide variety of topics covered in the courses.  

Further research interests are on primary care mental health clinical research, socio-cognitive, and behavioural change interventions that promote quality of life, healthy ageing, and evidence-based clinical practice.

He is a supporter of offering students an authentic experience through his online course and learning competency-based assessment. His world leading and innovative research aims to create new approaches and technologies to evaluate our bodies dietary intake; how improving our daily nutrition quality and eating patterns facilitates not only improvements in health and weight, but also our general wellbeing.
